I’m Derek, the photographer behind Summit & Pine.
I photograph couples, families, elopements, and intimate weddings for people who feel most at home outside. My work is built around natural direction, honest moments, and outdoor places that already hold meaning — lakes, trails, mountains, pine forests, and national parks.
I’ve always been drawn to places that make people slow down. The kind of places where the light changes fast, the wind is part of the story, and the best moments usually happen when people stop trying to pose perfectly.
Based in Lake Tahoe. Built for the outdoors.
Summit & Pine is based around South Lake Tahoe and serves couples and families throughout Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, national parks, mountain towns, and outdoor destinations.
Whether the session is by the water, in the trees, or on a trail, the goal is simple: create photos that feel grounded, natural, and true to the people in them.
Less stiff posing. More honest connection.
Most people don’t feel natural in front of a camera. That’s normal. My job is to give enough direction that you feel comfortable, without turning the session into stiff poses or fake moments.
I’ll guide the movement, timing, and location so the photos feel intentional but still honest.
